Three skippers showed up with Stars, today, and one skipper showed up with a US1M. A rather light turnout for such a nice day. It’s something the Club will have to think about.
It goes without saying that the solitary US1M was the top boat in that class. However, the Star racing was more interesting. We don’t get to sail the Stars much, so it seems like we spend a lot of time tuning when we get to race them. The weather didn’t help much because the gusty-high, then gusty-low wind didn’t help us figure out how to tune.
My Star was sailing like a brick until I finally got a tuning it liked. Then Herb and Greg got tangle up and had to be rescued by the trusty-dusty rescue air boat. Herb seemed to come out ok, but Greg…not so much. We took an early lunch so Greg could fix his Jib forestay.
After lunch, my Star was sailing better, but Gregs…not so much. His Star was now sailing a lot like mine was before lunch. Herb’s Star sailed well, but his sheet line kept jumping off the winch drum, even though his line tensioner was very taught. Hmmm!
It was a hard day of sailing with slow races and lots of time-outs for repairs. In the end, we only got 10 races in 2 ½ hours.
In the Star Class Herb and I had the same score, but I managed to have more 2nd places than he did.
