Jim and Sue Linville Memorial Regatta-2026

We had a great day to hold the Jim and Sue Linville Memorial Regatta.  There was bright sun, low humidity, and temperatures in the low 80’s.  The wind, on the other hand, was reluctant to make its presence known.  Breezes were light with even lighter spots around the course.  Nevertheless, 11 skippers were not going to be denied a “Run for the Duckies”.

Glenn Chalder, AMYA Region 1 Director, knew Jim and Sue Linville, and came up from Connecticut to sail with us.  Also, Dan Williams, Commodore of the Model Yacht Club at Pine Hills (PHMYC), came with a delegation from the Plymouth, MA area to sail with us.

It was nice to see skippers from around the area together in one place.

The light wind made early separation of the fleet difficult and rounding’s at the first mark was always interesting to watch.  Skippers who were able to break away from the scrum got clean air and usually did well and everybody else had to play “catch-up”.  Occasionally a gust of wind would send some of the boats in the middle/back of the back surging forward to make the final leg of the race very interesting.

Overall, it was a nice day of sailing with congenial group of skippers, and everybody had fun.

Glenn Chalder was the top DF95, followed by Rick Wakeman and Herb Dreher.  These three skippers were awarded the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Ducky Trophies, respectively.  Glenn Chalder also got to take home the Linville Ducky Perpetual Trophy until next year.

Greg LaPlante was the top S1M skipper.

Many thanks to Sue Martin for keeping score and Steve White for keeping things moving along.

Cliff Martin, Commodore, MmMYC
